Highlights from the Affordable5g workshop at NKUA

On the 20^th of October 2022, Affordable5G conducted an in-person dissemination workshop on the premises of project partner National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) at the Evripos Campus, Psaxna, Dirfies Messapies, Greece. Here below, a brief report on the event:

After an introductory speech of Prof. Panagiotis Trakadas (Technical Manager of Affordable5G and Associate Professor in the Department of Port Management and Shipping), who outlined the project’s key pillars and technical novelties, all of the project outcomes were discussed within five thematic sessions (click on each session title to read/download the slides presented):

Students from the Departments of Port Management and Shipping and Digital Industry Technologies of NKUA were invited, resulting in a remarkable and significant engagement opportunity, as the outcomes of Affordable5G are directly related to various applications in the scientific areas of 5G private deployments in smart ports, Industry 4.0 applications and other connected topics/sectors.

The workshop counted 100 students attending, getting the opportunity to be informed on all key technical points of Affordable5G and discuss the aforementioned related applications – Certificates of attendance were issued to all students present to the sessions.

HIGH-TECH AND AFFORDABLE 5G NETWORK ROLL-OUT TO EVERY CORNER – Dissemination Workshop

The goal of this Affordable5G-organised workshop is to present and discuss all project’s outcomes regarding the design and deployment of private5G networks. In this context, discussions will take place, focusing on the architectural approach of Affordable5G, in connection to the deployment of advanced machine learning techniques for network optimization, as well as on the supported use cases (emergency communications, smart cities, time sensitive networking).

Students from the Departments of Port Management and Shipping and Digital Industry Technologies of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) will be invited, as the outcomes of Affordable5G are directly related to various applications in the scientific areas of the aforementioned departments (e.g., Industry 4.0 applications, emergency communications in the maritime sector, etc).

IEEE Future Networks World Forum

The 2022 IEEE Future Networks World Forum (formerly 5G World Forum) aims to bring experts from industry, academia, and research to exchange their vision as well as their achieved advances towards future networks of 5G and beyond and encourage innovative cross-domain studies, research, early deployment and large-scale pilot showcases that address the challenges of future networks.

Returning to a full in-person format, the event seeks contributions on how to nurture and cultivate future networks technologies and applications for the benefit of society. These systems should unveil a novel mobile network architecture that not only improves physical data rate, but also creates a new ecosystem allowing the deployment of novel services and applications. A key target is to build a novel network architecture that should support not only classical mobile broadband applications and services but also vertical industry (e.g. Intelligent Transport, Industrial IoT, eHealth, etc.) and other future networks-based services.

Accelerating 5G Innovation in Europe: a 5G-LOGINNOV, FUDGE 5G and Affordable 5G joint technical workshop

EU-funded projects 5G-LOGINNOV, FUDGE 5G and Affordable 5G join forces for this online workshop, entitled “Accelerating 5G Innovation in Europe”, which will revolve on their work addressing challenges and opportunities for private networks, focusing on CAD, transport & logistics, smart cities, manufacturing.

The goal is to discuss and contribute to the debate about the advancement in the adoption of 5G technologies in several sectors. The three selected projects matured their 5G-expertises in relation to the optimisation of traffic operations at ports and logistics, the delivery of a solution covering the needs of private and enterprise networks and the definition of a 5G architecture for private networks allowing interoperability and customization for industry verticals.

EuCNC & 6G Summit

The 2022 EuCNC & 6G Summit builds on putting together two successful conferences in the area of telecommunications: EuCNC (European Conference on Networks and Communications), supported by the European Commission, and the 6G Summit, originated from the 6G Flagship programme in Finland, one of the very first in its area. The conference is sponsored by the IEEE Communications Society and by the European Association for Signal Processing, and focuses on all aspects of telecommunications ranging from 5G deployment and mobile IoT to 6G exploration and future communications systems and networks, including experimentation and testbeds, and applications and services.
