The policy seminar on ‘Next generation of human-AI/robot systems – what role for policy?’ is part of a series of 8 policy seminars organised within the Advanced Technologies for Industry (ATI) project commissioned by EISMEA and the European Commission – DG GROW. The project provides a systematic monitoring of technological trends and reliable, up-to-date data on advanced technologies to properly support the implementation of policies and initiatives and finally promote a competitive European industry.

Research and innovation policies across Europe are actively promoting the development of AI and robotics technologies. Beyond unfolding the potential in these technologies, policy will also need to play an important role to prepare the future workforce for the upcoming changes and mitigate the less beneficial societal and ethical related consequences of automation and human-machine interactions. Successful technological transformation has various challenges that will have to be addressed both by policy and change in industrial behaviour including trustworthy technology, qualifications, change management and organisation, safety and occupational health, liability and ethical behaviour. In this context, the online policy seminar will aim to:

  • present the ATI analysis on human-robot and human AI systems and policy implications
  • identify challenges not yet addressed and point out at policy gaps
  • develop recommendations how to improve policy.

The policy seminar on ‘Scaling up in European advanced tech – fixing the demand side’ is part of a series of 8 policy seminars organised within the Advanced Technologies for Industry (ATI) project commissioned by EISMEA and the European Commission – DG GROW. The project provides a systematic monitoring of technological trends and up-to-date data on advanced technologies to properly support the implementation of policies and initiatives and finally promote a competitive European industry.

In the quest of resilience through increasing its strategic capacity, the EU needs to take more actions to support the European scale-ups with a technology base. There are several challenges at EU level that prevent tech scale ups to fully develop their potential. In this context, the ATI project has worked on identifying the main-challenges of these companies, providing and overview of the existing policy strategies and measures at EU level, as well as examples of national and regional policies. This policy webinar will also help to identify additional gaps in knowledge and policy needs.

Advanced technologies are currently fueling the so-called “fourth industrial revolution”, with the potential of transforming EU industries and creating enormous growth of the European economy. In response to the challenges related to this continuous transformation, most of the EU governments have made Industry 4.0 a priority adopting large-scale policies to increase productivity and competitiveness and improve the high-tech skills of their workforce.

In this context, the Advanced Technologies for Industry (ATI) project provides a systematic monitoring of technological trends and data on advanced technologies to properly support the implementation of policies and initiatives and finally promote a competitive European industry.

This event has two main objectives:

  • to present some interesting tools monitoring advanced technologies’ trends and developments such us the Data dashboard and Technology Watch reports on AI and IoT which can represent a valuable source of information when planning and implementing I4.0 policies at national level;
  • to discuss how to better monitor technology uptake across EU sectors giving voice to Industry 4.0 platforms and to share and exchange experiences in order to benefit from ATI in a practical way, for example through the definition of joint projects or the formulation of questions to policy makers.
    The event is addressed primarily to Industry 4.0 platforms, but all interested stakeholders are welcome to join.
