ETSI IoT Week 2021: Facing the challenges

This year’s edition will focus on the major IoT standards achievements that further support the digitalization of society, businesses, and multiple Industries across numerous vertical sectors. It will also focus on how such digitalization enables countermeasures against the current pandemic.

The ETSI IoT Week will include:

A pre-event tutorial on IoT Semantics and Ontologies: From Data Sharing to Information Sharing using oneM2M, ETSI SAREF and the Semantic Portal
A series of half-day sessions dedicated to:
- oneM2M: Service Experiences and Best Practices
- IoT in the Face of the Pandemic: Digitalization and Countermeasures
- IoT Cybersecurity: Consumers, Smart Cities, e-Health and SMEs: the Standards
- Artificial Intelligence in IoT: AI Adoption and the Standards

NGIoT Thematic Workshop: Smart Cities & Communities

This workshop on Smart Cities and Communities is part of a thematic workshop series on IoT and Edge computing, organised by the NGIoT and EU-IoT Coordination and Support Actions in collaboration with the European Commission and relevant associations, networks, and projects.

In spring 2021, NGIoT workshops are dedicated to IoT and Edge computing in 6 key application domains: Smart Cities & Communities; Agrifood and rural communities (30 March); manufacturing; automotive industry and mobility (27 April); energy and health (18 May).

The purpose of the workshop is to:

identify research, innovation and deployment priorities long term, with a specific focus on the green and digital transformation of European cities and communities
identify trends and gaps related to the advance of IoT in urban areas and communities leading to sustainable pathways,
opportunities related to the convergence of IoT with other technologies, specifically, the current shift from cloud to edge; digital twins, and AIOT based services
mobilise the communities around the identified solutions and the upcoming calls under the Horizon Europe and Digital Europe Programme.

Special attention will be given to the role of “Edge Nodes”, which are part of Europe’s Digital Decade, and the goal of 10,000 climate-neutral edge nodes. Also, the role of and potential investments in Device Gateway Platforms in the context of data spaces, platforms and digital twins will be explored

Hosted by NGIoT and EU-IoT projects with Living-in.EU, OASC, EUROCITIES, AIOTI, FIWARE Foundation and the European Commission.

Affordable5G at the 22nd INFOCOM WORLD CONFERENCE

Affordable5G was presented at the 22nd INFOCOM WORLD CONFERENCE taking place in Athens, Greece. The focus of this year’s conference was on the upcoming 5G networks, Digital Transformation, and new technologies that will reshape the landscape. Participants included the Greek Minister of State & Digital Governance, the president of the Greek Telecoms Regulator and the CEOs of the three Greek MNOs. There were 81 participants in the plenary sessions, workshops and scientific presentations, 65 sponsors and 3200 delegates (online).

Affordable5G was presented on the 3^rd day, at the ‘scientific’ session, along with other R&D projects (the agenda of the day is available, in Greek, here).

The 8bells presentation, held by Mr. George Kontopoulos, provided an overview of the project – (link)

The InCITES presentation, held by Dr. Ioannis Neokosmidis, focused on the neutral host model that will be examined in Affordable5G – (link)
