NGIoT Thematic Workshop: Smart Cities & Communities

This workshop on Smart Cities and Communities is part of a thematic workshop series on IoT and Edge computing, organised by the NGIoT and EU-IoT Coordination and Support Actions in collaboration with the European Commission and relevant associations, networks, and projects.

In spring 2021, NGIoT workshops are dedicated to IoT and Edge computing in 6 key application domains: Smart Cities & Communities; Agrifood and rural communities (30 March); manufacturing; automotive industry and mobility (27 April); energy and health (18 May).

The purpose of the workshop is to:

identify research, innovation and deployment priorities long term, with a specific focus on the green and digital transformation of European cities and communities
identify trends and gaps related to the advance of IoT in urban areas and communities leading to sustainable pathways,
opportunities related to the convergence of IoT with other technologies, specifically, the current shift from cloud to edge; digital twins, and AIOT based services
mobilise the communities around the identified solutions and the upcoming calls under the Horizon Europe and Digital Europe Programme.

Special attention will be given to the role of “Edge Nodes”, which are part of Europe’s Digital Decade, and the goal of 10,000 climate-neutral edge nodes. Also, the role of and potential investments in Device Gateway Platforms in the context of data spaces, platforms and digital twins will be explored

Hosted by NGIoT and EU-IoT projects with Living-in.EU, OASC, EUROCITIES, AIOTI, FIWARE Foundation and the European Commission.

IoT Week 2021

IoT Week is an annual event organized by the IoT Forum since 2011. The IoT Week conference gathers industry and academia representatives from around the world. So far editions of the IoT Week were held, respectively, in Barcelona, Venice, Helsinki, London, Lisbon, Belgrade, Geneva and Bilbao. This year’s edition will take place online due to the current COVID-19-related restrictions.
The last edition attracted about 850 participants specialized in the IoT domain, including research centres, research projects, large industries, SMEs, developers, standards development organizations and policymakers, including the European Commission.

Monitoring the uptake of Advanced Technologies in European industry

This “Make it work” event will present some interesting tools which monitor advanced technologies’ trends and developments, discuss how to better monitor technology uptake across EU sectors and give voice to industry associations and clusters to share their experience and needs to benefit from this initiative in a practical way.

The event is addressed primarily to industry associations, clusters and sectoral networks, but all interested stakeholders are welcome to join.

Data Spaces for Manufacturing – current state of play (Webinar)

European Big Data Value Forum

The European Big Data Value Forum (EBDVF) is the flagship event of the European Big Data and Data-Driven AI Research and Innovation community organized by the Big Data Value Association (BDVA) and the European Commission (DG CNECT). The 2020 edition of the EBDVF will take place between the 3rd and the 5th of November 2020, and it is organized in collaboration with DFKI, Plattform Industrie 4.0, Plattform Lernende Systeme and Berlin Partner.

EU Market Surveillance Conference

The new Regulation on market surveillance (EU) 2019/1020 will start to apply in 2021. It will modernise market surveillance in the EU, and ensure better consumer protection and fairer competition between businesses.

This conference, under the German Council Presidency, is jointly organised by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, and the European Commission. It will discuss how market surveillance will become more digital, cooperative and resilient.

Simultaneous interpretation will be provided in English and German.
