Accelerating 5G Innovation in Europe: a 5G-LOGINNOV, FUDGE 5G and Affordable 5G joint technical workshop

EU-funded projects 5G-LOGINNOV, FUDGE 5G and Affordable 5G join forces for this online workshop, entitled “Accelerating 5G Innovation in Europe”, which will revolve on their work addressing challenges and opportunities for private networks, focusing on CAD, transport & logistics, smart cities, manufacturing.

The goal is to discuss and contribute to the debate about the advancement in the adoption of 5G technologies in several sectors. The three selected projects matured their 5G-expertises in relation to the optimisation of traffic operations at ports and logistics, the delivery of a solution covering the needs of private and enterprise networks and the definition of a 5G architecture for private networks allowing interoperability and customization for industry verticals.

NGIoT Thematic Workshop: Manufacturing

This NGIoT workshop brings together the visions on manufacturing for Europe from several associations and projects featuring presentations and discussions in the domain of IoT Manufacturing, with a focus on the convergence of technologies, as between IoT and Edge computing.

The purpose of this half-day workshop is to:
• identify research, innovation and deployment priorities;
• identify trends and gaps related to the uptake of IoT and addressing convergence of IoT with other technologies, specifically, the current shift from cloud to edge in the domain of manufacturing;
• address challenges that cut across the verticals and to provide a platform for discussion and exchange of learnings and use cases;
• mobilise communities around the identified solutions and the upcoming calls under the Horizon Europe and Digital Europe Programme.

“5G TSN deployment model and time synchronization aspects” Webinar

This webinar presents how 5G can be deployed together with TSN for industrial automation, by looking into specific manufacturing use cases. These include advanced industrial robotics controlled from the cloud, communication between industrial controllers, the centralized control of an AGV fleet, and adaptive production based on real-time monitoring of the production process. Further, 5G time synchronization deployment aspects are presented.

Cisco’s private 5G enterprise vision

Private 5G enterprise networks are becoming an increasingly attractive opportunity for specialised vendors – each private network’s size and software/hardware requirements to be tailored to the means and goals of each enterprise.

Cisco recently revealed their vision on private 5G enterprise – highly aligned with Affordable5G’s philosophy and objectives – and driven by the “simplicity wins” motto.

The company is involved in several private wireless trials and deployments globally, “working with leading carriers and leading enterprises just to understand how we can simplify this”, in the words of Jonathan Davidson, SVP and GM at Cisco’s Mass Scale Infrastructure Group, whose statements were featured in an extensive article on sdx central.

Davidson clarifies Cisco’s take on private 5G enterprise: “We’re going to enable our customers to buy our technology any way that makes sense for our customers. But we also want to realize that cloud has dramatically changed every single industry that it’s touched, and we don’t want to miss a transition where we have an inflection of two technologies — cloud and 5G — and we think that those two things can live together in harmony”.
