SUMMARY:Leading the Digital Decade
DESCRIPTION:The Leading the Digital Decade conference\, hosted by the European Commission and the Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the European Union\, will be held virtually on 1 and 2 June 2021. \nThe starting point of the first day’s debate is the Communication “2030 Digital Compass: the European way for the Digital Decade”. Its vision is simple: everyone in Europe can and should benefit from digital. \nThe second day will be dedicated to the launch of the Digital Europe Programme\, the first financial instrument of the EU for European projects on digital. \nTwo of the highlights of this event will be the presentation of the Lisbon Declaration\, a contribution to the preparation of a proposal from the European Commission for a joint inter-institutional Declaration of Digital Principles\, and the inauguration of the EllaLink submarine cable\, which will be retransmitted from the cable’s site in Sines\, south of Lisbon. DESCRIPTION:The policy seminar on ‘Scaling up in European advanced tech – fixing the demand side’ is part of a series of 8 policy seminars organised within the Advanced Technologies for Industry (ATI) project commissioned by EISMEA and the European Commission – DG GROW. The project provides a systematic monitoring of technological trends and up-to-date data on advanced technologies to properly support the implementation of policies and initiatives and finally promote a competitive European industry. \nIn the quest of resilience through increasing its strategic capacity\, the EU needs to take more actions to support the European scale-ups with a technology base. There are several challenges at EU level that prevent tech scale ups to fully develop their potential. In this context\, the ATI project has worked on identifying the main-challenges of these companies\, providing and overview of the existing policy strategies and measures at EU level\, as well as examples of national and regional policies. SUMMARY:Monitoring the uptake of Advanced Technologies for effective Industry 4.0 policies
DESCRIPTION:Advanced technologies are currently fueling the so-called “fourth industrial revolution”\, with the potential of transforming EU industries and creating enormous growth of the European economy. The workshops are hosted by NGIoT and EU-Iot projects together with the European Commission + relevant associations\, networks\, projects and organisations. \nThe objective of these thematic workshops is to mobilise the community in anticipation of the upcoming Horizon Europe and Digital Europe programmes\, and to consolidate priorities from the communities of stakeholders in a roadmap for Europe (the main objective for NGIoT)\, both relating to technologies and with respect to supporting the range of relevant policies\, including the green deal. \nThe afternoon of 30 March 2021 will be dedicated to presentations and discussions in the domain of agrifood and rural smart communities. The workshop will bring together the visions on smart communities from several associations and projects: Living-in.EU\, AURORAL and dRural and the more sectoral aspects DEMETER\, ATLAS\, IoF2020 and SmartAgriHubs. \nThe economy of rural smart communities in Europe is a key focus area for the European Commission\, both short-term in securing equal access to connectivity and services and as part of the long-term vision for rural areas. DESCRIPTION:This workshop on Smart Cities and Communities is part of a thematic workshop series on IoT and Edge computing\, organised by the NGIoT and EU-IoT Coordination and Support Actions in collaboration with the European Commission and relevant associations\, networks\, and projects. \nIn spring 2021\, NGIoT workshops are dedicated to IoT and Edge computing in 6 key application domains: Smart Cities & Communities; Agrifood and rural communities (30 March); manufacturing; automotive industry and mobility (27 April); energy and health (18 May). \nThe purpose of the workshop is to: \n\nidentify research\, innovation and deployment priorities long term\, with a specific focus on the green and digital transformation of European cities and communities\nidentify trends and gaps related to the advance of IoT in urban areas and communities leading to sustainable pathways\,\nopportunities related to the convergence of IoT with other technologies\, specifically\, the current shift from cloud to edge; digital twins\, and AIOT based services\nmobilise the communities around the identified solutions and the upcoming calls under the Horizon Europe and Digital Europe Programme.\n\nSpecial attention will be given to the role of “Edge Nodes”\, which are part of Europe’s Digital Decade\, and the goal of 10\,000 climate-neutral edge nodes.
